SITA-ResourceCo

SITA-ResourceCo Alternative Fuels Pty Ltd was formed in September 2007. The Company's primary enterprise is the specialised production of Process Engineered Fuel as a replacement for fossil fuels; the end use being power generation and cement manufacturing.

The first fully integrated SITA-ResourceCo plant was commissioned in November 2006 in Wingfield, South Australia, at a total cost of over $20 million. This fully automated plant sorts, sizes and extracts various matter and associated by-products from commercial waste streams in order to generate Process Engineered Fuel.

SITA-ResourceCo's Wingfield facility has the capability to manufacture up to 350,000 tonnes of raw material per annum into approximately 100,000 to 150,000 tonnes of Process Engineered Fuel: the first and only one of its kind in Australia.

The Process Engineered Fuel produced by SITA - ResourceCo possesses significant calorific value and can be used as a fuel substitute for coal and gas in high combustion facilities.

The SITA-ResourceCo manufacturing plant sorts the entire raw material stream into its various components. The process separates all raw materials and over 90% of the material is recycled.

Manufacturing Processed Engineered Fuel involves a process of grinding, screening and sorting of materials. The raw material is then sorted and transferred throughout the plant via specialised handling conveyors. These handling conveyors remove non-combustible material such as metal, rock and dirt. Combustible material is separated via a proprietary flotation system.

The sorting process is fully integrated, with quality maintained through an automated software system that monitors the entire process simultaneously.

In order to develop a strategy for unlocking the value for the end users of Process Engineered Fuel, it's necessary to realise the potential value of Processed Engineered Fuel in these two ways:

  • The energy replacement value based on the amount of fossil fuel (coal, gas and diesel) displaced by the use of the Process Engineered Fuel; and
  • The carbon and renewable energy benefits that may in turn be accrued via:
  • Carbon value from avoided fossil fuel use
  • The benefits from avoided emissions from landfill
  • Renewable Energy Certificates

It is the Company's intention to work with various End User Partners to ascertain and realise the full value of these benefits, for the mutual benefit of both parties.

SITA - ResourceCo are now in the process of establishing additional Process Engineered Fuel manufacturing facilities throughout Australia, based on the same platform as the existing Wingfield premises.
