Our History

In 1993 ResourceCo commenced operations in South Australia as an integrated resource recovery business, diverting waste away from landfills and adding value to maximise the recovery of recyclable materials.
In 1998 ResourceCo developed a dedicated mixed waste processing operation which screened and sorted co-mingled waste streams. This resulted in re-usable materials such as concrete and asphalt being converted into recycled quarry product.
Following extensive research and development with Adelaide Brighton Limited, ResourceCo developed a process to harness the energy value contained in Commercial and Industrial (C&I) waste via the manufacture of Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF). This resulted in the commissioning of Australia’s first PEF manufacturing plant in 2006 at a cost of approximately $20 million.
Following the success of PEF, SITA Australia Pty Ltd partnered with ResourceCo to establish SITA ResourceCo Alternative Fuels Pty Ltd in 2007 and PEF is now used by Adelaide Brighton as a partial replacement for fossil fuels in their cement kiln.
Around the same time, ResourceCo launched into the concrete market, becoming the first company in South Australia dedicated to maximising the use of recycled aggregates and sands in the supply and manufacture of concrete.
In May, 2011, ResourceCo established an exciting new joint venture to take the Group’s Alternative Fuel technology directly into the Asian markets. Our joint venture partner, Readymix Holdings International, is an industry leader in ready-mix concrete and quarries and has developed market-leading businesses in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Most recently, ResourceCo entered into a joint venture with Southern Waste in Adelaide’s southern suburbs. The facility offers customers packaged solutions, incorporating ResourceCo’s established recycling business and Southern Waste’s complete disposal option for residual materials and wastes needing treatment.
The site offers the full range of services, including material supply, storage and treatment options to aid site remediation projects, and final disposal for non-recyclable waste in its double lined cell.
ResourceCo is developing services for the Carbon and Green Energy markets as the desire for sustainability and the reduction of greenhouse gasses escalates through the increase in regulation of emissions.
